Use-case library

Practical starting points for analytics work with Dawn.

Use these examples to turn a broad idea into a focused first request. For each use case, begin with a clear decision, the smallest relevant dataset, and an owner who can validate the result.

Commercial performance

Question: Where are revenue, conversion, or retention changing—and what explains the movement?

Start with: Sales, customer, product, and target data.

Useful output: A dashboard for monitoring, plus a regular report that highlights material movements and recommended actions.

Customer retention

Question: Which customers are at risk, and what action is most likely to improve retention?

Start with: Customer history, product usage, support interactions, and account attributes.

Useful output: Segments, a prioritised customer list, and a review process for actions taken.

Operations and service delivery

Question: Where are delays, exceptions, or costs increasing?

Start with: Orders, workflow events, inventory, staffing, or service-ticket data.

Useful output: A monitoring dashboard, exception alerts, and a repeatable root-cause analysis.

Finance and planning

Question: What is driving the difference between actuals, budget, and forecast?

Start with: General ledger, planning, sales, and operational-driver data.

Useful output: A variance report with explained drivers, assumptions, and actions for the next planning cycle.

Forecasting

Question: What is likely to happen next, and how uncertain is that expectation?

Start with: A time series of the outcome, potential drivers, and a historical period long enough to evaluate against.

Useful output: A baseline forecast, accuracy measures, and a plan for reviewing forecast error over time.

Choose one use case to begin

Prioritise a use case when it has a repeated decision, available data, a named owner, and a measurable benefit. Start small, validate the result with the people who use it, then build the workflow into a dashboard, report, pipeline, or scheduled job.
